Monroe, Wash. – The EvergreenHealth Monroe Emergency Department recently added a range of new advanced equipment to enhance the hospital’s emergency care and service, and support a second trauma room, thanks to funds raised at the EvergreenHealth Monroe Foundation’s 2017 Blue Jeans and Boots Gala.
Community contributions helped support the purchase of several safety and comfort-focused tools including a mobile ultrasound machine, which allows providers to perform trauma exams to identify internal bleeding in two minutes or fewer, while a new Accuvein digital vein viewing system illuminates patients’ veins for increased comfort and precision in placing IVs.
Because many medications are administered according to a person’s weight, adult and pediatric patients now also benefit from new scales that allow them to be weighed where they are receiving treatment. For adults, the department offers a high-capacity digital rolling scale and gurneys that can record a patient’s weight without needing to transfer from the bed. For children, a pediatric scale and treatment table enhance patient safety and comfort, as well.
The facility also added new CO-Oximeter handheld kits to easily test oxygenation levels, which is a critical metric for many trauma patients, along with an intubation endoscope to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of emergency airway procedures.
“We are incredibly thankful for our community’s support and generosity, which allowed our emergency department to open a second trauma room for patient care,” said Renée Jensen, CAO of EvergreenHealth Monroe. “As the Sky Valley community’s hospital, we are committed to growing to serve the needs of our residents. With the opening of this new trauma room, we offer ever more enhanced emergency services to East Snohomish County, aligning with our focus on delivering the best outcomes with exceptional care and service.”
EvergreenHealth Monroe’s emergency room is designated as a Level 4 Trauma Center and staffed by board-certified emergency physicians, physician assistants, and registered nurses trained in advanced cardiac support and pediatric advanced life support, and certified in trauma care. Additionally, the emergency room offers one of the most advanced, rapid emergency stroke care evaluations in the Puget Sound region, where providers are able to perform a complete evaluation of a potential stroke patient within 20 minutes of arrival.
